NKJ Ephesians 6:17
And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God

Do you remember David's sword?

NKJ 1 Samuel 21:9
So the priest said, “The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom you killed in the Valley of Elah, there it is, wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod. If you will take that, take it. For there is no other except that one here.”      And David said, “There is none like it; give it to me.”

I- The word 'sword' appears for the first time in Genesis, in the story of Adam and Eve, right after the sin of disobedience.

NKJ Genesis 3 :24
So He drove out the man; and He placed a cherubim at the east of the garden of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.

• In this account, the flaming sword guarded the way to the tree which provides eternal life.
• This means that no one can have access to the garden, or to the tree of life.

II- There's a contrast between these two swords, the one in Genesis and the one in Ephesians

a) The one in Ephesians (6:17 above);

• It's the sword of the Spirit which is given to us.
• This sword of the Spirit is the word of GOD.
• It has great power for our faith, our sanctification and salvation.

        John 5:39
            You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life;
            and these are they which testify of Me.
        John17:17
            Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.

• Its absolute, remains forever and is divine.

        1 Peter 1:22-25
            22 Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in                sincere love of the brethern,love one another fervently with a pure heart,
            23 having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word                of God which lives and abides forever,
            24 because “All flesh is as grass, And all the glory of man as the flower of the grass.                The grass withers, And its flower falls away,
            25 But the word of the Lord endures forever.” Now this is the word which by the gospel                was preached to you.

b) The one in Genesis (3:24 above) is a flaming sword which separates people from eternal life.

• If you can see, it protects the tree of life from our contamination.
• The reason is because of sin, because our enemy, Satan, introduced sin into the world.
• It's the consequences of human's evil actions.

III- Jesus Christ is described in His glory, like having a sword coming from His mouth.

a) That sword is spiritual and not physical, and indicates the Gospel of Christ, the truth of GOD.

NKJ Revelation 1: 16
He had in His right hand seven stars, out of His mouth went a sharp two edged sword, and His countenance wss like the sun shining in its strength.

NKJ Revelation 2: 12-16
'Repent, or else I will come to you quickly and will fight against them with the sword of My mouth.

b) This is the Word of GOD, the True Living Word, the two edged sword, nothing can stand against the word of GOD.

NKJ Revelation 19: 11-15
11 Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war.
12 His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself.
13 He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God.
14 And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses.
15 Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.

NKJ 2 Corinthians 10:4-5
4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds,
5 casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.

We are the army of GOD and our mission is to save souls.
